Q. What are the clumps in my almondmilk?
Your almondmilk has not curdled – we promise! Because we don't use any stabilizers or emulsifiers, our almondmilk naturally separates, and over time the healthy fat forms a layer of cream on top-- similar to cream-top dairy milk. Shaking the bottle breaks up the cream into smaller pieces, some of which dissolve into the milk, but you will still find some cream bits floating. These cream bits may look funny, but they taste great and are very heart-healthy. Enjoy!
Q: Why do Three Trees nut and seedmilks separate?
Because we don't add any emulsifiers (such as lecithin), our nut and seedmilks naturally separate over time. Just give the bottle a good shake and that should take care of it.
Q: What are the black spots at the bottom of my bottle?
Rest assured, it is not mold! In our unsweetened vanilla almondmilk, we use real vanilla bean specks. Over time, they group together and form the black ring you might see at the bottom of your bottle. Just give your bottle a good shake (head down helps!) to disperse the vanilla beans in the bottle and enjoy the taste of real vanilla.
Q: How long does the product last?
You should consume your Three Trees product by the date printed on the bottle. After opening, the product will last 7-10 days in the refrigerator.
Q: How do you get longer than a week shelf life without any additives?
Our nut and seedmilks do not contain anything that helps preserve or extend shelf life. By flash pasteurizing our milks (raising the temperature then cooling it back down really fast), in the same way dairy milk is flash pasteurized, the milk is able to stay fresh longer without any additives.
Q: Where do you source your nuts?
We source locally whenever possible. While California's Central Valley is a leading producer of almonds, much of this region's crop is not organic. Spain has a tradition of organic farming practices, and is a major grower of organic almonds. So when we can't get enough organic almonds from California, we get them from Spain.
Q: Where are your products made?
All Three Trees products are made in California.
Q: Why do you use PET 1 for your bottles? What about glass?
PET1 is recognized as a safe material and is one of the most widely accepted recyclable plastics by curbside recycling programs. It is BPA-free plastic and is not known to leach chemicals that might cause cancer or disrupt hormones. Glass is great, but we choose not to use glass because it costs more energy to produce than plastic, and is heavier to ship. We try to minimize our carbon footprint and are constantly looking for ways to do so.
Q: Where can I buy your nut and seedmilks? How can I get it at a store near me?
Our products are available at major retailers including Bristol Farms, Central Market, Gelson’s, New Season’s, Mom’s, PCC, and select Whole Foods. To find a store near you, visit our Store Locator. If Three Trees is not available at a store near you, please contact us, or better yet, talk to the dairy buyer and request that they carry Three Trees! Use this Product Request Form.
Q: Are your almonds pasteurized?
Yes. The FDA/USDA require that all raw almonds be pasteurized to protect against Salmonella. Pasteurized almonds are still considered raw.
Q: Do you soak or blanch your almonds?
We do remove the skin of our almonds but do not soak them before making our delicious almondmilk.
Q: Is your plant-based milk processed in a facility where other allergens are present?
Our facility processes a variety of nuts and seeds but has very strict cleaning procedures which ensure that our milks are not contaminated with any allergens other than what is listed on the label.
