FAQs

Products

  • Our mission is to help people eat more real, nourishing plant-based foods. That means we only use real, whole ingredients. Absolutely no gums or fillers! We’re proud of our 100% clean ingredient list. The richness of our nutmilks comes simply from using more healthy nuts, nothing else. Unlike some plant-based dairy alternatives that use thickeners to give body and taste, our milks get their rich yet clean taste simply from the quality of the fresh, organic ingredients that we use.

  • After you open your bottle, the milk will be good for at least 10 days in the fridge. It may last longer if your refrigerator is very cold. Three Trees is fresh, so it should be kept in the fridge before and after you open it.

  • Check our store locator which we update monthly! Our milks are available at major retailers, including Whole Foods Market, Sprouts Farmers Market, Wegmans and many more. If Three Trees is not available at your favorite natural foods store, please talk to the dairy buyer and ask them to bring in Three Trees! We would love to be available on shelf everywhere, but stores listen to their customers.

Separation

  • Separation is natural – just give them a good shake. We don’t add thickeners, stabilizers, emulsifiers, or fillers, so they naturally separate. Thickeners and stabilizers such as carrageenan, xanthan gum, locust bean gum and acacia gum are what prevent separation. Emulsifiers such as oils and lecithin also serve to make the milk even and “pretty.” We think natural is beautiful, so we don’t cover up our gorgeous nut milks with additives!

  • Seeing white chunks floating in your Three Trees is completely normal and they are a result of our commitment to making high quality, whole foods! Our almond milk is made using four times more almonds than other leading brands, which means it is naturally higher in fat and creamier in texture. Over time, natural separation of our almond milk’s fat content occurs, causing fat molecules to bind together forming clumps or a layer of almond cream on top, similar to cream-top dairy milk. Keeping Three Trees free of unnecessary additives, like stabilizers or emulsifiers, which are commonly used to keep other almond milks smooth and homogeneous, is of utmost importance to us at Three Trees. Rest assured that the presence of clumps are a natural part of our almond milk’s composition, showcasing its purity and high almond content. Before enjoying your Three Trees almond milk, give the bottle a good shake to redistribute the creamy richness or enjoy as-is!

Ingredients

  • We source locally whenever possible - we use organic California almonds and California pistachios!

  • Yes. The FDA requires that all raw almonds be pasteurized to protect against Salmonella. Pasteurized almonds are still considered raw.

  • Yes, the almonds are blanched to remove the skins. This step enhances the nutritional value of the almond milk as the almond skins contain tannins, which inhibit nutrient absorption.

  • Our facility processes a variety of nuts and seeds but has very strict cleaning procedures which ensure that our milks are not contaminated with any allergens other than what is listed on the label.

  • Our nut milks do not contain anything that helps preserve or extend shelf life. By flash-pasteurizing (raising the temperature then cooling it back down really fast) in the same way dairy milk is to eliminate potentially harmful microorganisms, and then filling the bottles in a clean room (think a germ-free environment), our milks are able to stay fresh longer without any additives.

  • All of our products are USDA Organic, which means they are by definition free from synthetic pesticides, including glyphosate.

  • The 'added sugars' on the label refer to sugars that originate from the starch in oat. When starch is broken down, it turns into simpler sugars, which is why oat milk has a sweeter taste!

  • To improve the taste of our Original Almondmilk, Vanilla Almondmilk, and Pistachio Nutmilk, we added 50 mg of salt (about 2% of recommended daily intake for sodium). We did this after careful consideration and extensive testing. This small adjustment enhances the creaminess of our milks and brings out the rich flavors of our high-quality ingredients.

Sustainability

  • Our bottles are now made with 100% recycled plastic. No new plastic is created for our packaging. rPET is recognized as the most widely accepted recyclable plastic by curbside recycling programs. It is BPA-free plastic and is not known to leach chemicals that might cause cancer or disrupt hormones. Glass is great, but we choose not to use glass because it costs more energy to produce than plastic, and is heavier to ship. We try to minimize our carbon footprint and are constantly looking for ways to do so.

  • Almonds have received a disproportionate amount of attention during the drought. Perhaps a bit unfairly so. The reality is that all agriculture requires a lot of water. We think it’s better to think in terms of the nutritional value of the agricultural product per gallon of water required. For instance, how many grams of protein or fat per gallon of water used. It takes much more water to get a glass of milk than a glass of almondmilk. Almond farmers in California are also doing a lot to make their farms more water-efficient.
